Virtualisation simplifies management for PRIMIS+

Primis+ provide a free service to primary care organisations in order to help them improve patient care through the effective use of their clinical computer systems. When faced with the need to replace six aging file servers and difficulties in upgrading business critical applications,their IT Manager considered virtualisation as a technology platform to satisfy both the current and future needs of the business.
Having used a virtualisation solution in the past, he registered to attend the STS Virtualisation Webinar for a technology update and later employed STS to undertake a capacity planning exercise in order to analyse their key server utilisation statistics and therefore gain an accurate definition of the virtualisation hardware that would be required to support their business growth.
The review proved that VMware software in conjunction with a Dell EqualLogic SAN which included licenses for de-duplication of data and snap-shotting as standard would be an ideal solution to meet the needs of the business.
STS designed, installed and configured the new hardware and implemented VMware licenses before undertaking physical server migrations to a virtual environment.
Since the installation, PRIMIS+ has gained significant performance increases and with upgrades to the latest versions of business applications being made from one console, network management has been vastly simplified.
